From the Gospel of Luke 10:1-12, 17-20
At that time the Lord appointed seventy-two others whom he sent ahead of him in pairs
to every town and place he intended to visit. He said to them, "The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest. Go on your way; behold, I am sending you like lambs among wolves. Carry no money bag, no sack, no sandals; and greet no one along the way. Into whatever house you enter, first say, 'Peace to this household.' If a peaceful person lives there, your peace will rest on him; but if not, it will return to you. Stay in the same house and eat and drink what is offered to you, for the laborer deserves his payment. Do not move about from one house to another. Whatever town you enter and they welcome you, eat what is set before you, cure the sick in it and say to them, 'The kingdom of God is at hand for you.' Whatever town you enter and they do not receive you, go out into the streets and say, 'The dust of your town that clings to our feet, even that we shake off against you.' Yet know this: the kingdom of God is at hand. I tell you, it will be more tolerable for Sodom on that day than for that town."
The seventy-two returned rejoicing, and said, "Lord, even the demons are subject to us because of your name." Jesus said, "I have observed Satan fall like lightning from the sky.
Behold, I have given you the power to 'tread upon serpents' and scorpions and upon the full force of the enemy and nothing will harm you. Nevertheless, do not rejoice because the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice because your names are written in heaven."

Greetings,
I hope that you are well and enjoying your Independence Day weekend -- and the many blessings God has favored us with in our country.
I have attached the bulletin for the parishes for this weekend to the "About" pages. I have also attached the list of food items that the local St. Vincent Food Bank is in need of. The parishes of the Upper Yakima Valley continue to support this worthy cause, particularly in the midst of an economy that sees great food insecurity among many people. I hope that, if you have not already contributed to this cause, you will do so soon. If you do not reside in the greater Yakima area, I hope that you will contribute to your local food bank. May God Bless You for your kindness and your generosity.
As a reminder, I will be away from the parishes from Saturday, July 9 through Friday, July 15. Please see the bulletin ("From the Pastor's Desk") for details with regard to the liturgy schedules for both of the parishes during my absence.
On Wednesday, July 6 after the 6:00pm Mass, St. John will re-engage our video workshop with Bishop Robert Barron's "Catholicism: A Journey to the Heart of the Faith." I hope that you will be able to join us as we continue our journey through our Catholic Faith.
Blessings to you and your family this holiday weekend. I pray particularly for those who are traveling this weekend; that they do so safely.

As the Church enters into a time of renewed focus on the Eucharist; a time of prayer and reflection on The Real Presence of Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament, please see the article in last week's bulletin (for Sun. June 26 under the "About" pages) on this subject. As well, please click the link below for another avenue towards a greater involvement in this Eucharistic Revival of the Catholic Church.
